Two Pole Positions!
Converting isn’t as easy as people seem to think…
San Ramon, CA – We had our hopes up for a Sonoma win repeat for this past weekend’s USTCC double header at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Pole Position for both Round 4 and 5 made it look like it could happen. A last lap pass in Round 4 and a new competitor coming in for Round 5 that didn’t have to carry any rewards weights, gave Gary two second places and podium finishes. This will make for an exciting last round at Sonoma Oct 10-11 as both Hyundai Genesis Coupes competing in the same class and both driven by a Gary, are currently top of the table with equal points… Sonoma will be the deciding race for the Championship! How close can it get?
What Gary Trudeau had to say about Round 4:
“Starting from pole is always exciting. I managed to get away well and keep the lead, though Ali Arsham stayed with me throughout the race. It was a close and fair battle the whole race long, although this was a relatively short race. Ali passed me on the last lap to take the win. Great drive by him, although I believe that if the race would have been longer, I might have managed to get that top spot back as the pass came after I miss-shifted for the third time in a row after the very same turn… Regardless, I got some good points for the Championship which is good.”
What Gary Trudeau had to say about Round 5:
“I managed to get pole again. And I had another good start, although I was overtaken by a new guy that came into the Championship for this race. He didn’t have to carry the rewards weight like us, so he had an advantage. I was able to keep up and chase throughout the race, just didn’t have enough for the overtake. A slight off due to a brake issues in the last turn before the straight was enough to have me fall back and lose contact. But I managed to get the car home in one piece, having pushed really hard all race long. Another second place now puts me in a tie with Gary Sheehan. And that will make for an exciting race at Sonoma to decide the Championship in the Touring Car (TC) class this year. I am very much looking forward to that race weekend!”
