Starting the Season with a Win in the Hyundai Welding Genesis

Buttonwillow, CA – The season opener of the United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) resulted in victory for Ali Arsham, driving the GoGoGear.com/ Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis.
Arsham qualified the Genesis in first place after a treacherous qualifying where lots of cars on the track made things difficult. If that wasn’t enough, rain started coming down as soon as the green flag came down. “I knew that the track would slow down as time progressed so it was critical to go for one quick lap. Unfortunately, with a handful of laps ever at that track and no time for setting up the car, it was difficult but I went for it,” said Ali Arsham. It was unsuccessful though because immediately someone had gone off and there was a red flag to get the broken car off the track. That 10 minute delay only made the track wetter and more treacherous. But despite that Arsham managed to pull off a lap good enough for pole position.
Sunday morning’s race had its own problems as the rain had stopped but the asphalt was still damp, cold and very slippery. “I tried to build as much heat into the tires as I could but the first few laps was very tricky and due to the cold weather, I could not get my oil temperatures to where I wanted which meant I had to take it very easy on the engine and sacrifice some power,” added Arsham.
Despite the chaos, everything went very well and soon the Genesis was in front with a comfortable lead in the Touring Car class right behind the winning Sportsman class GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Honda Civic of Reza Arsham. “It was great to finish 1-2 for the team and we could not have asked for a better result,” explained Arsham.
A short break now means the team has a bit of time to make improvements for round 2 at Sonoma next month.
