MC Racing Squeaks across the Line in Second Place

September 1, 2025 (Willows, CA) – Michael McColligan, driving the #36 MC Racing Honda Civic SI, endured the second enduro of the year to finish second in the Sportsman Class at Round 4 of the 2025 Hankook United States Touring Car Championship at Thunderhill Raceway.

MC Racing has typically performed well in the longer enduro races and was optimistic for another strong finish. Team driver Michael McColligan managed the high ambient temperatures well to qualify P3 for the race.  The team prepped the car for the 2 ½ hour race with some fresh front tires and packed the car with every drop of fuel it would hold.  At the drop of the green flag, McColligan settled into his race pace and then moved up to P2 due to some attrition.  Some yellow flag running enabled the team to run to the 1 ½ hour mark for the planned single pit stop.  The Team Cobalt California and GOGOGEAR teams had the car fueled and serviced well before the mandatory five minutes with McColligan maintaining second place after the pit stop sequence.  With McColligan in a solid second place, the plan was to just bring the car home, but the transmission had other ideas as it began to fail two laps from the finish.  Fortunately McColligan was able to nurse the car enough to take the checkered flag in P2 for the best finish of the season. “It feels great to be back on the podium and spray the champagne again!  It was a fantastic result for the team and I am so thankful for the help during the pit stop.  We could not have done this without Team Cobalt California and GOGOGEAR Racing”, smiled McColligan.  MC Racing faces a quick turnaround to get the car repaired for the next race at Sonoma Raceway in only two weeks.

MC Racing competes in the Hankook Tires United States Touring Car Championship aboard a Mazda RX8 and Honda Civic SI with support from Idemitsu, Raybestos, Mazda USA, Mazdatrix, Racing Beat, Konig Wheels, Orafol, Eibach Springs, and Napier Outdoors.
