MC Racing Kicks-off Season in an Unfamiliar Cockpit

April 24, 2022 (Willows, CA) – Michael McColligan, driving the #34 GOGOGEAR Racing Honda Civic finished 4thth in Round 1 of the Hankook Tires United States Touring Car Championship at Thunderhill Raceway.

Due to some scheduling and logistics issues, MC Racing did not have their trusty Mazda RX8 for the 2022 Season Opener. GOGOGEAR Racing was able to provide team driver Michael McColligan a seat in their Sportsman class Honda Civic. With minimal front-wheel drive experience McColligan faced an up-hill battle to extract speed. “Both Saturday sessions had over 70 cars and I really struggled with traffic, which made it difficult to get a clean lap”, stated McColligan. On Sunday, McColligan made steady progress and was able to qualify in P4 for the feature race. During the race, McColligan drove steady and increased his pace with each lap, bringing the car home in 4th place. “The front wheel drive Civic requires a completely different driving style to what I am used to and I have a lot of work to do to gain confidence and speed”, summed-up McColligan. The team is working hard to have the Mazda RX8 ready for California Speedway in June.
