MC Racing Continues Their Solid Season with Strong Run at Buttonwillow

October 17, 2021 (Buttonwillow, CA) – Michael McColligan, driving the #36 MC Racing Mazda RX8 finished 7thth in Round 7 of the Hankook Tires United States Touring Car Championship at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

MC Racing was looking forward to racing close to home base for Round 7. “Buttonwillow always brings back great memories as this is where I first started racing”, stated team driver Michael McColligan. The team was also testing their new under-tray and diffuser that was intended to bring additional performance. Saturday practice went smooth but qualifying was a bit messy with most of it run under a full course caution due to a major incident preventing McColligan from getting a clean lap. The team was optimistic to make up some spots from their P7 starting position. Unfortunately this was not to be as the fresh set of tires installed for the race had a huge vibration that was especially troublesome at the high speed configuration used for the feature race. “As soon as I shifted into 5th gear on the first lap I knew that we were in trouble and once I hit sixth I could not see out any of the mirrors due to the severity of the vibration. I just managed the race the best I could to keep from suffering a major failure”, stated McColligan. “Even without the vibration we were just not fast enough this weekend to challenge for the front. We will get back to the drawing board and work hard to improve for the season finale”, summed up McColligan.
