October 20th 2024, Millville, NJ — Maximum Attack Motorsports faced a challenging season finale of the 2024 US Touring Car Championship East Series, held at the Thunderbolt Circuit of NJ Motorsports Park. Despite showcasing promising pace and significantly improved reliability, the team experienced a difficult pair of Qualifying sessions on Saturday and an unfortunate turn of events that brought an early end to their 2024 season.
Driver Brandon Lewis, who has been a formidable force on the track this season, was expected to finish the year on a high note. The Maximum Attack VW Jetta demonstrated potential, with the in-car telemetry indicating that qualifying lap times of 1:27 to 1:28 were well within reach. Unfortunately, traffic issues and a session-pausing Black Flag prevented the team from setting a representative lap during the Qualifying session.
The challenges didn’t end there for Maximum Attack Motorsports. During Sprint Race 1, the car experienced overheating issues while stuck behind slower yet more powerful cars, further complicating the difficult Saturday sessions. As a precaution, Lewis pulled in early to prevent any damage to the Jetta’s 2.0L Turbo engine.
Personal circumstances also impacted the team, as Lewis succumbed to a sudden illness shortly after the Sprint Race. Lewis revealed that he had been feeling slightly unwell earlier in the weekend, having cared for his two sick children earlier in the week. After bravely attempting to compete in the Qualifying and Heat Race, Lewis had to make the tough decision to withdraw from the remaining races on Sunday.
"Not your typical race weekend recap," said Lewis on his personal social media accounts. "This weekend I hoped to finish the year on a high note, but it wasn't in the cards. It hit me so hard and fast, I could barely stand after getting out of the car." He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the camaraderie and support extended by friends and fellow competitors, who assisted him throughout the weekend and helped load his transporter for the long ride home.
Maximum Attack Motorsports extends its gratitude to the fans, sponsors, and the entire racing community for their unwavering support throughout the season. Despite the disappointing end to a challenging campaign, the team enters the busy off-season having learned some valuable lessons and with a renewed determination to start the 2025 season strong.
