Handling that Winning Peer Pressure

San Ramon, CA – Teaming up for the season, with Dave Brown winning Round 1 at Thunderhill Raceway, Gary Trudeau found himself in the position of having to handle peer pressure to emulate his co-drivers result. And boy did he do that with his #52 Hyundai Genesis Coupe!

Gary missed out on pole by a tenth of a second. This must have given a bit of an itching for the race. A blistering start saw him take the lead right away, even putting a few cars between himself and the competition, looking like he would run away with the win for Round 2 of the 2022 United States Touring Car Championship TC class race at Sonoma Raceway.

But it wasn’t to be that easy for Gary. In the late stages of the race, he saw his 5 second lead slowly dwindling. The car was getting more and more of a handful to drive as rear grip faded.

His competitors continued to close in and eat into the lead margin. With two laps to go, there was only about three car lengths in between the top 3 cars. Gary looked up to the race officials every time crossing the start-finish line, to see the white flag announcing the last lap. He had to wait for what felt like an eternity to see that flag…

With Gary’s critical focus, his remaining lead was enough to take home to a well-deserved and hard-fought win here at Sonoma Raceway. And we believe he was happy to report back to his co-driver Dave Brown, that he too has won his season opening race.

“Wow! This one really feels good! I was pushing all weekend long. The car was handling like a champ, and I was comfortable driving. Race preparations by the Life’s Good Racing team and race support by Red Panther Motorsport really have given me a fantastic car. Everything ran well this weekend. Yes, I lost out on the pole by the tiniest of margins, but that also gave me that fire to stake my claim for the win come Sunday. It is also a good feeling to emulate the performance of my co-driver in round one. We are leading the Championship, but keenly focused on the next race at Fontana!”
