Freddie Macugay Finishes Third at Round Two of the United States Touring Car Championship
Willows, CA – Freddie Macugay, driving the Walker Telecomm and Walker Wine and Brew Honda Civic, finished third in the Sportsman class of the United States Touring Car Championship at Thunderhill Raceway on August 2, 2020.
August at Thunderhill is usually very hot and the weather did not disappoint this time with temperatures over 100 F. These conditions are extremely difficult on the equipment and drivers so it was crucial that the teams ensure that their cars are prepared well and can finish running at triple digit speeds. The Walker Telecomm crew worked hard all weekend long and did some short test runs to make sure that their Honda is ready for the race on Sunday.
Macugay ended up starting fifth in the race and finishing third and staying out of trouble. “There were some cars that were faster at the first part of the race but I knew that they could not maintain that pace in this heat and the race would come to me,” said Macugay. He ended up passing some cars and finishing on the podium for the second time this season.
