Flag to Flag Racing

San Ramon, CA – Bob Accardo in the Accurate Arms / Race Marketing sponsored #29 Chevy Camaro kicked off the 2022 USTCC season at Thunderhill Raceway in dominating fashion with a win in the GT class.

The format for the weekend was a practice and qualifying session each day to set the grid for Sunday afternoon’s race. The practice and qualifying sessions were multi-class resulting in a very crowded racetrack yielding slower than normal lap times and several on-track incedents. Following the chaos during Saturday’s qualifying, Accardo decided to forego further attempts to practice or qualify on Sunday. Letting his best lap from Saturday stand awarded him a 3rd place starting spot for Sunday’s race. When the green flag waved he grabbed the lead early and remained there until the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

That is certainly the right way to start the season for a team with championship hopes!

“Every race is a challenge. This weekend we never really felt like we were under pressure for the class win. We battled with heavy traffic in qualifying where Mike made a call spotting on the radio that saved me from a wreck in turn 3! From there it was risk versus reward so we decided to stay in, and saved a set of tires! The start of the race was dicey, the guy in front of me didn’t go- he stalled! I was able to skirt around him and still get out front. I pushed pretty hard for the first few laps to stay in front of the Audi R8! Then he seemed to fall back so I got in a rhythm, logged laps, and got some much needed seat time in the car. I’m still learning how to drive it! What a fantastic weekend this was! The Red Panther Motorsport crew again has outdone themselves! A big thanks also goes to Life’s Good Racing in Livermore, who helps with the car prep. It’s an amazing experience to go racing with these people and the level of support that they provide! ”
