First Race, First Win!
San Ramon, CA – Bob Accardo joined team RPM with his newly acquired Howe Racing Tube Frame Chassis with a 2010 Chevy Camaro body kit after he had tested that car for a weekend last Summer and subsequently decided that he wanted to go all-in on the car and racing in the United States Touring Car Championship.
The car was prepped by the acclaimed crew at Life’s Good Racing in Livermore, CA. The same shop that had run that car some years ago in USTCC and through whom Bob bought the car as well. Finally, after a full refresh and some upgrades, this past weekend was the new outing for the car, previously known under the #96 and now as the #29 with Bob Accardo.
Bob started out riding bulls up and down the West Coast Rodeos. He always was a car guy though, and he made the switch in the early 2000’s, starting with dirt oval racing until 2009. In 2010 he built a Ford Mustang Road Race car and joined NASA NorCal to run the car in Time Trials (TTU class) until 2017. The dirt ovals called again, and Bob had a blast running outlaw karts for two seasons, but then wanted to go back into road racing. And here he is, winning his first USTCC outing in a new to him car!
Privately, Bob is the owner and operator of a gun shop (Accurate Arms USA) and is married with two kids. The whole family came to watch Bob racing and enjoy the RPM trackside hospitality.
Bob Accardo reviews his Round FOUR performance:
“I need to thank the guys at Life’s Good Racing for the car preparation and Red Panther Motorsport for the race support this weekend at Laguna Seca. I was so much looking forward putting the foot on the ‘loud pedal’! We made some set-up changes and gear adjustments after the practice sessions and went on to set fastest time in qualifying, sitting on Pole Position for Sunday’s race. Then I got a great launch and was able to lead the race from flag to finish, winning my first ever United States Touring Car Championship event! I absolutely could not have accomplished this without them… Hell of a job guys! Thank you!”
What a start into his USTCC career for Bob Accardo! Competition will mount for next race, when we are racing as the support series for the Firestone Indy Car Grand Prix at Laguna Seca Sept. 17-19.
