Daniel Milburn Takes Second at Fontana

Round 2 of the 2021 season for the US Touring Car Championship was a great day of racing. After round 1, all of the teams learned what they needed to do to step their game up. Daniel Milburn driving for the Milburn Motorsports/Bay Area Drafting RSX was one of these many drivers hunting for the win. Much like Las Vegas, the qualifying times at Auto Club Speedway were all close, with the top four cars qualifying within a second of each other. This tight field had all of the teams looking for those few extra tenths of a second. Unfortunately for Milburn Motorsports, that time would be hard to find.

“The car isn't geared for being on such a big speedway” Daniel Milburn stated in an interview. He also had a few things to say about the competition. “We do have the power to get it done, but the speed we lose on the oval is going to cost us. If we can take a podium, we’ll be happy with it,” he added. Despite these issues, Daniel was able to qualify in third place with a clean qualifying lap.

The race for Milburn Motorsports was tricky. With a bad launch, Daniel had to start from the back of the pack and work his way forward. Working through traffic, he was able to make it into second place by the time the checkered flag came out. After the race, I got another opportunity to speak with him. “The car worked as well as it could under these conditions. Brad Austin put in a good drive, and we just didn't have enough to catch him. I’ll happily take home second place, it puts us in a good position for the next one” He stated.

This ties The TNI Racing MX-5, and the Milburn Motorsports RSX in championship points for the sportsman class. The next race is at Sonoma, where there’s bound to be plenty of more action between this tight sportsman group.
