Arsham has transmission issues at United States Touring Car Championship Sportsman season opener at Buttonwillow Raceway and manages to finish fourth.

Buttonwillow, CA – Ali Arsham returned to the driver seat in the season opener for the first time since 2014 and managed to finish fourth in the Touring Car class of the United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) at Buttonwillow Raceway in Southern California, driving the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

The weekend looked promising for the 2014 champion but the transmission of the Hyundai had other ideas. The car had performed well in testing but some race conditions are hard to duplicate. Gears were sometimes hard to find which is not a good thing when the competition is tough which meant that Arsham would start in fourth place. “This track is super fast and the transmission is starting to act up which makes the car inconsistent. It was not bad enough to change it at the track but it started getting worse and the goal became to just finish the race,” said Arsham after the race.

Arsham moved up to third place in the early stages but transmission issues returned which bumped him down to fourth which is where he eventually finished. “I had not driven this car in many years and the team have made so many changes that it was like a new car. We have a long list of things to change before the next race and I am glad we have six weeks to complete everything. I am really looking forward to Thunderhill and I think we can be very competitive there,” added Arsham.
