Another win for Milburn
Round 4 of the United States Touring car championship went very well for Milburn Motorsports at the beautiful Sonoma Raceway. Sean Milburn was behind the wheel of his #15 BMW M3 Touring Car, and found himself on pole position after qualifying by just around a second. We had a talk with Sean to understand what his plans for the weekend were. “Buttonwillow was a sacrificial race, we were on the third race for those tires, and it was going to be hard to take home a win. Sonoma is my favorite track and I’ve brought out the new tires for this weekend, I know that’s what gave me the edge in qualifying and I hope that can carry over to the race” Sean explained. He chose to start on the right side, with Gary Sheehan lining up on the left side.
Sean and Gary both had an excellent start headed into Turn 2, but Sean had the preferred line on the inside and was able to hold P1 coming out of the corner. He kept his position for the race, pulling a considerable gap from the field by the time the checkered flag came out. We had a talk with Sean after the race to see how it went for him. “The race went well, I got a great start and kept my head down to put in good laps. My new tires helped a lot with keeping my pace, the car felt good and did its job and I couldn’t be happier with the result! Thank you to Coolboxx to keeping my cool and my head in the game, and to FastSideways for providing me with the skills necessary to drive my car to the best of my ability”
Next up is the 2 hour race at Thunderhill Raceway. This will open up a lot more different strategy to all the drivers in the series, and we will check in next time to see what plan Milburn Motorsports has for their weekend.
