A bumpers width for a first win…

Sonoma Raceway, CA – What a season it has been for the Walker Motorsports Team. We ran the full 2020 United States Touring Car Championship season in the Sportsman (SP) class. This class has plenty of competitive, well sorted out cars and very experienced and fast drivers. We sure dropped into the deep end with our Honda Civic! And what a season it has been! All the way to the finish line (quite literally) with only a bumper width deciding the winner at the last round of this seasons Championship here at Sonoma Raceway…

“Wow! What a race and what a year! I have managed a few podiums thus far and always knew that the car and myself were capable of getting onto that top step. We worked hard all season long, but to get it in the fashion we did here at Sonoma Raceway, is just beyond words.” a very excited Alfred Macugay stated. Alfred drove the #16 Walker Motorsports Honda Civic for the season, with a varied degree of success ranging from podium spots to not being able to fight for the win.

“This was the most intense and exciting race of my career thus far!” Alfred Macugay said. All race long Alfred was in a tight battle for the lead with Brad Austin, who led most of the race and had put up a fight to the last corner in his blue Miata. A corner, where a good exit can decide who wins the ensuing drag race to the finish line. “I was aware of that and pressured Brad into the last corner of the race. I think Brad tried to get on the throttle a bit too early, getting a little sideways, whilst I had a perfect corner exit.” It became a drag race to the finish line, with Alfred crossing the finish line first (only the width of his bumper ahead of Brad Austin’s Miata) to claim his first USTCC win this season!

“Wining the race by the smallest of margins, this is sure to be a great TV show once aired on MSNBC Sports. I cant wait to see it!” Alfred Macugay added.

The Walker Motorsports Team takes this opportunity to thank its sponsors, partners and fellow competitors for a fantastic 2020 season. The Team and Alfred really end the season on a high! And did we mention that this Sonoma Raceway win also helped clinch a 2020 Championship podium finish?
