In a captivating display of speed, strategy, and sheer determination, Round 4 of the United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) West delivered an unforgettable 2.5-hour endurance race at Thunderhill Raceway.
The GT class was dominated by a masterclass performance from the ARG Motorsports team. Daniel Rose piloted his Rose Construction/ Ecoblox BMW M3 with precision. The team executed a flawless strategy, combining consistent, blistering lap times with a perfectly choreographed pit stop.
The Touring Car (TC) class was where the real drama unfolded, a nail-biting spectacle that kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the very end. Ultimately, it was Ken Kurtz, at the wheel of his GoGoGear.com / Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis, who emerged victorious. Kurtz drove a disciplined race, following his teammate for most of the race. He held off a challenge from the second-place finisher, Enrique Ferreira, who was driving a Rose Construction/ Ecoblox BMW 330i, proving that ARG Motorsports' prowess wasn't limited to the GT class. The final moments of the race saw a thrilling push to the finish line, with Kurtz completing 62 laps, just one ahead of Ferreira. The fight for the final podium spot was just as intense. The GoGoGear.com / Konig Wheels team celebrated a double-podium finish as the Honda Civic Type R, driven by Reza Arsham and Gordon Pun, also completed 61 laps, narrowly missing out on second place.
In the Sportsman class, Andy Chittum solidified his dominance, taking another well-deserved win in his Mad Man Motorsport Mazda MX5. The Mazda MX5, a nimble and responsive machine, proved to be the perfect tool for navigating Thunderhill’s turns. He was closely followed by Michael McCollgan in his MC Racing Honda Civic, who put in an impressive performance to secure second place. The Sportsman class, with its mix of seasoned veterans and hungry rookies, delivered some of the most exciting close-quarters racing of the day. The GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Honda Civic of Niki Arsham also had a strong showing, adding to the team’s impressive results across multiple classes.
The USTCC West Round 4 was more than just a race; it was a testament to the vibrant and competitive nature of North American touring car racing. As the dust settles and the teams prepare for the next round, one thing is clear: the USTCC offers some of the most exciting racing in the country.
