Different Car, Different Challenge, Same Result
San Ramon, CA – Round 2 of the 2021 United States Touring Car Championship took us to Southern California and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Auto Club Speedway may undergo some changes in the future, and this could have been the last time we were able to run this track in this configuration. Truly a spectacular track with special, unique driver challenges and being the only Super Speedway on the US West Coast. A shame should this really be the end for this iconic track.
Due to the issues the #28 Z06 Corvette had faced in Round One at Las Vegas, Rob Harper brought another awesome car, his #28 BMW 330i BTCC Wide Body to Auto Club Speedway for Round Two.
Rob Harper reviews his Round ONE performance:
“One crazy weekend from Round One was certainly not enough! Would have loved to bring the Corvette to this high horse-power track, which is also one of my all-time favorite courses to run on. I was looking forward to running here, and to run the BMW for the first time at Auto Club Speedway. The perils started in Free Practice 1 and continued throughout Saturday and Sunday, culminating in losing power steering during the race. This was certainly a very hard fought second place for me, although I know it could have been that much easier, would we not have had the issues we ran into with this car that is still new to me. Still learning a lot about this build and what needs to be done. Very happy with the points tally of this round and what that means for the overall championship and a possible title.”
The team is now looking ahead for next round at Sonoma Raceway the last weekend of May. Let’s make sure to have a good, flawless race weekend for Rob in either of his #28 cars. He sure deserves it.
