Double header final weekend proves to be full of action.

Willows, CA – The USTCC season ended with a double header weekend that saw the championship in two of the four classes go down to the wire.  In the Touring Car class, the fight was between Gary Sheehan’s Hyundai Genesis Coupe versus Patrick Chio’s Nissan 350Z.  Outside of those two, no one has won the Touring Car class this season.  The fight in the Sportsman class was even more intense as four drivers were trying to land the championship. In the end, it was Nik Romano who kept his lead with a great performance to claim the title in the Lexus IS300.

The Touring Car race was a fight between the GoGoGear.com /Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis Coupe of Sheehan and his teammate Art Nersisyan in the second Genesis Coupe as well as Chio’s Speed SF Nissan 350Z.  On Sunday, Sheehan knew that he needed a fourth place finish to capture the title and he did not make any aggressive moves and finished third to capture his third title.  Chio made it interesting as he won on Sunday which meant that Sheehan would win by 5 points, the value of one position over the entire course of the season.

Everyone knew that the Sportsman battle would go down to the wire but Nik Romano kept pushing hard despite the fierce competition.  He put the GKR Racing Lexus IS300 on the podium both days to keep his points lead.  Two-time USTCC Champion Pete Bovenberg won the Sportsman class in his MBO Motorsports Honda Civic on Saturday while Edgar Lau put the TNI AGR Motorsports BMW 330i in victory circle on Sunday.

The Super Touring battle was full of action with four drivers going for victory even though Larry Bani had already clinched the title in his GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels BMW M3.  Reto Baumann won the class on Saturday in his Revo/German Auto Parts.com Volkswagen Jetta while George Kibilov won the class on Sunday in his SGK Performance BMW M3.

Henry Schmitt dominated the field easily winning the GT class on both days in his BMW of San Francisco BMW M4 GT4.  Ken Kurtz finished second in the Ravenol BMW M3 on Saturday while Sam Stowell finished second on Sunday in the BAF Auto Body Jaguar XKR-S.
