Chio comes from behind to win Touring Car. Lau scores first victory in Sportsman.

Monterey, CA – Patrick Chio won the Touring Car class in his SpeedSF Nissan 350Z at Laguna Seca Raceway which tied up the points battle for the third time this season.  Edgar Lau won his first USTCC race in the Sportsman class driving the Beuhler Vineyards/TNI Racing BMW 325i. Neither win was easy.
Chio qualified on pole position but a fell behind on lap one and quickly found himself in fourth place. It seemed like the championship would take a major hit for Chio but neither he nor his team give up.  In practice the team suffered from a broken driveshaft and transmission and they worked until midnight on Saturday night to get the car repaired and ready for Sunday’s race. Chio quickly worked his way up and by the end of the race he was in the lead celebrating with his team.  Finishing in second place was Gary Sheehan in the GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis with his teammate Art Nersisyan finishing third in the other GoGoGear.com/Konig Wheels Hyundai Genesis.
In the Sportsman class, Edgar Lau started on pole but he had pressure from Nik Romano’s GKR Racing Lexus. It was a fantastic Lexus vs BMW fight until Romano suffered from a broken suspension piece with a few laps to go.  Lau won the class while Pete Bovenberg’s MBO Motorsports Honda Civic finished a strong second followed by Joe Guigan in his AGardner Racing Ford Mustang.
The teams now get a much needed break and get ready for the next race on September 8-9 at Sonoma Raceway.
