August 12, 2007 – Willows, California. Michael McColligan driving the #36 Mazdatrix/Racing Beat MC Racing Mazda RX8 finished on the podium in his United States Touring Car Championship debut. McColligan steadily improved his pace throughout the weekend qualifying on the second row. He held his own in his first standing-start pulling even with the second place Dodge going into turn 1. “I did not have the pace to run with the front two cars so I settled into my race pace once I had a good gap over 4th”, added McColligan. Unfortunately a full course caution bunched the field back up and created a little more drama before the end of the race. “There was some interesting driving going on with the lapped cars”, added McColligan as he tried to stay out of trouble and bring the car home. “A podium and a trouble free weekend with a brand new car and my debut in the series was more than I could have hoped for and I am extremely happy and grateful to my team and sponsors”, summed-up McColligan on his weekend. The MC Racing Team goes back to work to further develop the RX8 and see if they can extract some more pace before the next USTCC Round, October 13-14 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
