Lepper/McColligan Finish the Season on a High and Solidify the Championship
November 13, 2022 (Willows, CA) – Michael McColligan and Tom Lepper, driving the #34 GOGOGEAR Racing Honda Civic finished P2 and P1 respectively during the double-header rounds 7 and 8 of the Hankook Tires United States Touring Car Championship at Thunderhill Raceway, securing the 2022 Sportsman Class Championship.
MC Racing team driver Michael McColligan switched from his usual Mazda RX8 to the front-drive GOGOGEAR Civic for the second time this season. Adapting to the new platform has been a challenge, but McColligan was able to qualify the car P2 for the Saturday Feature Race. At the drop of the green flag McColligan got a solid start and was able to get on the back of the lead pack. Unfortunately, after a spin, he lost contact with the leader, but then ran a trouble-free race to P2. “After my spin, I just wanted to keep the car in one piece for my teammate. I am really happy to be back on the podium and keep us in the points lead”, summed up McColligan.
Tom Lepper was in the Civic cockpit for the Sunday race and immediately showed his skill and experience with impressive practice times and a pole position. At the drop of the green flag, he got a tremendous start and started setting personal best lap times even getting into the battle with faster class cars. Lepper never made a mistake and finished the race with a dominant win. The driving team of Lepper and McColligan have been fast and consistent all year and were rewarded with the 2022 USTCC Sportsman Class Championship!
